The Security-9 uses a recoil-operated, locked-breech, tilting-barrel design paired with Ruger's Secure Action pre-cocked internal hammer system. The single-action trigger is complemented by multiple safety features, including a manual thumb safety, an integral trigger safety blade, and an internal hammer catch.
The full-size frame is glass-fiber-reinforced nylon with an aluminum insert for rigidity. Molded grip texturing with a molded-in Ruger logo/phoenix on the grips provides a secure hold. Front and rear slide serrations aid in manipulation.
Sighting is straightforward and practical: a fixed front blade with a single white dot and a drift-adjustable rear notch set in a dovetail. The dustcover incorporates an integral, multi-slot Picatinny-style accessory rail for lights or other compatible accessories.
