What's Included
- Smith & Wesson Model 686 no-dash revolver with 4-inch barrel
- Installed Pachmayr Monogrip rubber grip (aftermarket)
The no-dash 686 represents the first iteration of S&W's stainless L-frame, and this example falls in the early 1980s window (circa 1982–1983) with the factory 'M' modification completed. It retains the six-shot cylinder configuration, distinguishing it from later 7-shot variants.
The 4-inch stainless barrel has a full underlug and heavy profile, complemented by a serrated rib and a longitudinally serrated topstrap to reduce glare. Sights include a pinned ramp front with an orange/red insert and an adjustable rear, providing a clear and practical sight picture.
Controls and operating features reflect early production traits: a smooth-faced trigger, exposed hammer with a wide checkered spur, and a checkered cylinder release latch. The DA/SA action and robust L-frame construction underscore its .357 Magnum design intent, while also accepting .38 Special.
Construction is all stainless steel with a brushed/satin finish on the frame, barrel, and cylinder. Additional early details include the right-side S&W crest placement. The revolver is fitted with an aftermarket Pachmayr Monogrip rubber grip for a secure, hand-filling hold. The bore is excellent with sharp rifling.
