The P224 Extreme is a subcompact, double-stack derivative of the P229/P226 line and was discontinued by the mid-2010s, giving it a relatively short production run. It delivers the familiar SIG DA/SA system in a smaller footprint with a 3.5 inch barrel and robust capacity using the included magazines.
Construction highlights include a stainless slide with a black Nitron finish marked "SIG SAUER P224" and a non-railed aluminum-alloy frame with hard-coat anodizing marked "SIG SAUER INC. EXETER-NH-USA." The frame features front strap checkering and a backstrap formed by the wraparound G10 "Extreme" grip panels, along with a slightly beveled magwell for smoother reloads.
Controls are classic SIG: DA/SA with decocker, exposed hammer, and a left-side magazine release. The slide uses rear cocking serrations only and an external extractor for positive case control.
Factory sights are dovetailed tritium night sights (3-dot) with MH3-marked front and rear units for low-light visibility. Black/gray layered G10 "Extreme" grips provide secure traction and a distinctive look. Two extended 15-round magazines with grip sleeves and one 12-round flush-fit magazine are included, supporting a 15+1 capacity.
