Built during the original tang-safety generation (1968–1984), this M77RS carries the Southport, Connecticut rollmark and the RS configuration with factory open sights. Chambered in .270 Winchester, it uses a 22 in steel barrel paired with a blued steel receiver.
The action is a push-feed design with a full-length external claw extractor and a plunger ejector. Feeding is from an internal 4-round box magazine with a hinged floorplate. Ruger’s angled front guard screw bedding system is present.
Optics mounting is straightforward thanks to integral Ruger dovetail scope bases, and this rifle comes with Ruger 1-inch rings installed. For iron sights, it wears a ramped bead front and a folding-leaf rear.
The walnut stock features checkering, a pistol-grip cap, Ruger eagle medallion, a recoil pad with black spacer, and sling swivel studs. Controls include the signature tang safety. Length of pull is 13.5 in, and overall fit and finish are the classic blued-steel-and-walnut combination made in the United States.
