The M249S Standard is part of FN's Military Collector Series, mirroring the configuration and markings of its service-pattern counterpart while operating in a closed-bolt, semi-automatic format. It is built in the USA at FN's Columbia, South Carolina facility, with receiver markings and component CAGE codes (MFR 3S679) that align with its collector-focused pedigree.
Its 18.5 inch alloy-steel barrel is cold hammer-forged and chrome-lined for durability and service life. The barrel is removable and equipped with a carry handle and a flash hider, staying true to the platform's quick-change heritage while delivering precise semi-auto performance.
The rifle uses a dual-feed system, accepting both disintegrating M27-linked belts and standard STANAG magazines. A 30-round STANAG-pattern aluminum magazine is included, and the listed capacity is 30+1.
The feed cover integrates a full-length, numbered MIL-STD-1913 rail with a contrasting black top rail for mounting accessories. Sighting is handled by a protected-post front sight tower marked "F" and an adjustable rear sight, providing a familiar sight picture out of the box.
