Nighthawk Custom performed targeted enhancements to elevate this Colt Government Model while preserving its Series 70 character. The package includes a match bushing for precise lockup, a match trigger job with a solid smooth-face trigger of short/medium length, a new flat mainspring housing, and a cleanly crowned barrel. The slide and frame wear a matte dark nitride finish for a uniform, low-glare appearance.
The sighting system is upgraded with a Heine dovetailed rear sight secured by two set screws and a Trijicon tritium front sight marked "Trijicon H3 23," also dovetailed. This combination provides a clear, no-nonsense sight picture with a defined front reference.
Mechanically, it retains classic 1911 fundamentals: a Series 70 firing system (no Series 80 firing-pin safety), single-action, short-recoil operation, and a GI recoil system with a standard guide rod and spring plug. The slide shows rear serrations only, and the ejection port is lowered and flared. Controls include a left-side thumb safety and a beavertail grip safety with a memory pad, paired with a rounded commander-style rowel hammer.
Branding and details are notable: Government Model rollmarks with the Hartford address, Nighthawk hawk-head medallions at the rear of the slide on both sides, and "Nighthawk Custom" script on the right side of the dust cover. The pistol features double-diamond checkered wood panels secured with slotted screws. Chambered in .45 ACP with a 5-inch barrel and 7+1 capacity, this full-size steel 1911 was upgraded and finished in the USA.
