Built from a Lyman Great Plains Rifle percussion kit, this example retains the classic single-shot, muzzleloading sidelock configuration with a snail breech and nipple. The right-hand lock and robust heavy-profile barrel underscore its traditional plains-rifle layout. Barrel markings include "LYMAN – MIDDLETOWN, CT USA" and "GREAT PLAINS RIFLE .50."
The barrel is a 32-inch heavy octagon, marked "MADE IN ITALY – BLACK POWDER ONLY," and proofed with Italian stamps. The metal presents a browned barrel finish paired with a case-colored lock/receiver, providing a period-correct appearance.
Handling features include double-set, adjustable triggers; a hardwood half-stock secured by two wedge keys; and steel furniture comprising the buttplate, wedge escutcheons, and thimbles. Length of pull measures 14.0 inches. Sights are open iron, with a dovetailed front blade and an elevator-adjustable rear.
Manufactured by Investarm S.p.A. in Italy for Lyman, this is a modern reproduction built from a factory kit. Because it was kit-assembled, we recommend taking it to a professional gunsmith before operating.
