The AR-556 Free-Float Handguard series combines Ruger’s flat-top upper with a Ruger-branded free-float aluminum handguard featuring elongated M-LOK slots. A low-profile gas block sits under the handguard, and the 16 in barrel uses a threaded muzzle that currently hosts an installed multi-port brake. There are no iron sights installed, and the receiver’s Picatinny rail provides a straightforward mounting surface for optics or sights.
Receivers are 7075-T6 aluminum with a hard-coat anodized black finish. The bolt is 9310 alloy steel that is shot-peened and proof-tested. A carbine receiver extension is used, and the rifle feeds from detachable STANAG-pattern magazines.
Thoughtful upgrades center on ergonomics and control: a B5 Systems adjustable carbine stock, a B5 Systems pistol grip, and a Daniel Defense vertical foregrip. These components pair well with the free-float M-LOK handguard for accessory placement and recoil management, while the brake helps tame muzzle movement.
Built in the USA at Ruger’s Mayodan, North Carolina facility, this direct-impingement AR-15 is chambered in 5.56mm NATO with a 30+1 capacity. It ships with its original box and manual, a 30-round PMAG, and 30 rounds of ammunition.
