This Merkel 1620C factory two-barrel set pairs 28-inch Krupp Stahl tubes in 16 gauge and 20 gauge with a color case-hardened, scroll-engraved boxlock action. German-made in Suhl with CIP proofs and GSI Trussville, AL import marking, it features an English straight-grip walnut stock with right-hand cast-off and fitted splinter forends for each barrel set.
Condition
Overall Condition: Very good condition, showing only light, superficial signs of prior handling or use.
Bore Condition: Excellent - Clean, mirror finish, no signs of wear.
Specific Condition Notes: The action shows a few subtle blemishes in the metal finish. Both barrel sets are in impeccable shape. The walnut stock and forends show very faint handling marks. Barrel fit on both sets is extremely tight with full life in the locking mechanism. Firing pins are clean and properly shaped, and the ejectors are timed.

This 1620C is a side-by-side boxlock with double triggers, a top-tang manual safety, and a top-lever opening system. The receiver is steel with a color case-hardened finish and light factory scroll and rosette engraving. The barrels are marked Krupp Stahl and wear a deep blue finish.
Both 28-inch barrel sets use a solid matted rib with a brass front bead. The bores are bright, and the fixed chokes are identified only by the "1/2" marking on both monoblocs. The 16-gauge set is chambered 2.75 in, while the 20-gauge set is chambered 3 in.
The stock is walnut with an English straight grip and right-hand cast-off, paired with a hard-rubber buttplate molded with the Gebr. Merkel Suhl logo. Length of pull measures 14.25 in. Each barrel set has its own fitted splinter forend secured by a Deeley-style latch.
Markings include CIP/Suhl proof marks and the importer legend "GSI Inc. T’ville AL / GEBR MERKEL SUHL / MADE IN GERMANY." The top rib at the breech is stamped "1620 C No. 6" with an adjacent oval cartouche "1." Matching numbers are observed on the major components, and capacity is 2.
