The P85 launched Ruger’s centerfire semi-automatic lineup and set the template for the P-Series. This example was manufactured in 1990 and was made in the United States. It combines a stainless 4.5 inch barrel with a conventional closed-top steel slide with an enlarged ejection port and an investment-cast aluminum-alloy frame finished in hard-coat, delivering a durable, full-size 9mm platform.
The action is traditional DA/SA with an external wide-spur hammer. Controls include an ambidextrous slide-mounted safety/decocker and a left-side magazine release. As a pre-MKII P85, it does not use a spring-loaded firing pin block. A lanyard loop at the heel is present.
Sight configuration is a fixed system with a rear that is drift-adjustable for windage. Capacity is 15+1, and this pistol comes with four 15-round steel double-stack magazines.
Ergonomics are anchored by ribbed black grip panels bearing the Ruger medallion. Notable markings include the slide legend "RUGER P85," the barrel marking "9mm x 19," and the frame marking "STURM, RUGER & CO., INC., SOUTHPORT, CONN. U.S.A." Overall length is about 7.9 inches with an approximate weight of 32 oz.
