Built in Hungary and imported by Interarms, this Model R-9 carries clear external markings, including Hungarian Arms Works Hungary on the slide and the INTERARMS ALEXANDRIA, VIRGINIA import stamp. The slide is marked MODEL R-9, identifying this U.S. export configuration of the FÉG P9R.
The pistol uses a DA/SA operating system with a short-recoil, locked-breech design featuring a Browning-type, linkless tilting barrel that locks via the squared breech hood in the slide’s ejection port. A slide-mounted safety/decocker and an external spurred hammer provide familiar manual controls. Disassembly follows an S&W Model 59–style takedown/locking pin location.
This is a full-size 9mm with a 4.65 in barrel and a double-stack frame yielding an approximate 14+1 capacity. It includes three 14-round steel magazines that fit the R-9 pattern.
Sight picture is straightforward, with a fixed ramped front blade and a square-notch rear set in a dovetail. The pistol features a blued slide and blued carbon steel frame, complemented by two-piece checkered hardwood grip panels.
Overall, the R-9 presents as a solid 1980s Hungarian-made service-style pistol with import provenance, practical DA/SA operation, and a clean bore, ready for range or collection.
