Product Description

Walther P1 9mm (1960) Early Bundeswehr Alloy-Frame, Slide Marked "P38" — West German Proofs, 4.9 in Barrel, 3 Mags, Walther Case

This early-production Walther P1 is a West German, Bundeswehr-accepted example with a slide marked "P38" and acceptance date 4/60. It retains its original alloy frame without the later reinforcement cross-bolt and shows matching slide and frame numbers ending in 186. Clear Ulm antler and Eagle/N proofs, the "Carl Walther Waffenfabrik Ulm/Do." slide legend with Walther banner, and a two-tone matte gray/black finish round out a well-documented, early-1960s service pattern pistol.

    Condition

Overall Condition: Very good condition, showing only light, superficial signs of prior handling or use.

Bore Overall Condition: Excellent - Clean, mirror finish, no signs of wear.

Bore Rifling: Excellent Rifling - Sharp lands and grooves.

Specific Condition Notes: The pistol shows minor, superficial scratches and small blemishes on the finish. The bore presents a clean, shiny appearance.

    What’s Included

    • Walther-branded case
    • Three 8-round magazines (one is a factory Walther P38 9mm steel magazine with base marked Walther banner and P38 9mm)

Built in 1960 for early Bundeswehr service, this P1 features the transitional slide legend "P38" on an alloy-frame P1, a desirable detail for collectors tracking the postwar evolution of the design. The right side of the slide carries the Bundeswehr acceptance mark dated 4/60, supported by Ulm antler and Eagle/N proofs.

The pistol retains its original alloy frame configuration without the later reinforcement cross-bolt, reflecting the early production pattern. Matching slide and frame numbers ending in 186 further reinforce its cohesive, period-correct presentation.

Controls and features are true to the model: DA/SA trigger, slide-mounted safety/decocker with a red "F" index mark, heel magazine release, and left-side controls. The design uses Walther’s short-recoil, locked-breech system with a falling locking block and an open-top slide with fixed sights.

Sights are fixed, with a front blade and a rear sight. The slide wears a matte gray finish over a gloss black anodized aluminum-alloy frame for a two-tone appearance. Black checkered synthetic grips are relieved at the heel to accommodate the frame-integral lanyard loop.

The 4.9 in steel barrel and 8-round single-stack magazines deliver the classic P1 profile in a full-size format. The included Walther-branded case and three magazines, including one factory Walther P38-marked mag, make this a complete, ready-to-enjoy package.
