This commercial M1 Carbine by Plainfield Machine Co. follows the classic carbine pattern in a gas-operated, semi-automatic configuration chambered in .30 Carbine. It uses a steel receiver and an 18" barrel, with a 30+1 capacity when paired with the included 30-round magazines.
The paratrooper-style furniture is a highlight: a sliding twin-rod wire butt that latches via left-side buttons and collapses against the rear of the stock; the guide rods retract into channels in the wood while the butt remains external, combined with a hardwood body featuring an integral pistol grip and a finger-grooved vertical foregrip. Length of pull is 13.5".
Up top, a perforated steel handguard protects the barrel. The carbine uses a narrow barrel band with a left-side sling loop, has no bayonet lug, and ends in a plain crowned muzzle.
Sighting equipment follows the M1 Carbine pattern: a protected blade front with ears and an adjustable aperture rear. The barrel ring is marked "PLAINFIELD MACHINE / DUNELLEN, N.J. / CAL .30 M-1." The receiver is serial-marked (number not disclosed).
