This first-generation Savage Axis Compact in 7mm-08 Rem stands out with its compact 12.25 in length of pull, 20 in sporter carbon steel barrel, and clean, mirror-bright bore. It features the non-AccuTrigger configuration, a right-hand bolt with a 90-degree lift, and Savage’s floating bolt head and barrel-nut headspacing system. A one-piece Picatinny receiver-top rail is installed, and a factory 4-round short-action magazine is included.

The Axis Compact configuration delivers a 12.25 in length of pull paired with a 20 in sporter-profile barrel, creating a shorter, handier bolt gun without sacrificing barrel length. The barrel is carbon steel with a matte blued finish, features a crowned, unthreaded muzzle, and is configured without sights.
This is the first-generation Axis Compact with the non-AccuTrigger. It uses a right-hand bolt with a 90-degree lift and two front locking lugs. Savage’s floating bolt head and barrel-nut headspacing are employed to help maintain consistent lock-up and headspace.
The synthetic stock is finished in black and includes molded texturing for grip, an integral trigger guard, and sling swivel studs. Branding details include “AXIS” molded into the fore-end and “SAVAGE” molded into the buttstock.
The short-action detachable box magazine holds 4 rounds (marked “STD SHORT”), giving a 4+1 capacity in 7mm-08 Rem. The receiver is carbon steel, matte blued, drilled and tapped, and fitted with a one-piece Picatinny accessory rail. Additional features include a two-position tang safety and a 1:9.5 in twist rate.
