Built by Zastava in Serbia and marketed by Remington in the late 2000s, the Model 798 SPS brings proven Mauser 98–pattern engineering under the Remington banner. The left side of the barrel shank just ahead of the receiver ring bears the USSG – Rockledge, FL and Zastava – Serbia rollmarks, while the receiver itself shows the Remington Model 798 rollmark, providing clear manufacturing and import provenance from this 2000s production run.
The action is a controlled-round-feed design with a full-length claw extractor for positive feeding and extraction. A receiver-mounted, 2-position safety with a red indicator provides straightforward status at a glance. The bolt body is left in the white, and the receiver is drilled and tapped for standard M98 bases.
The rifle wears a 22-inch sporter-taper carbon steel barrel with a matte blued finish and comes without sights. Its full-size, black synthetic stock features textured grip and forend panels, a rubber buttpad, front and rear sling swivel studs, and a pistol-grip cap with an embossed R. Length of pull measures 13.5 inches.
Chambered in .30-06, the internal box magazine uses a hinged floorplate and holds 4+1 rounds in standard calibers, offering practical capacity with easy unloading when needed.
