The MAK-90 Sporter is a post-1989 import-compliant configuration from Norinco, built on a stamped AK-pattern receiver with a ribbed top cover. It uses the proven long-stroke gas piston system with a rotating bolt and is chambered in 7.62x39.
Furniture is the factory thumbhole stock with an orange-toned wood finish and a ventilated recoil pad, paired with a smooth wood upper handguard (vent holes are in the metal gas tube) and a wood lower handguard with two elongated vents per side. Length of pull is 14.0 in, offering a familiar fit for this configuration.
The 16.5 in barrel is threaded at the muzzle, and sighting is via AKM-style iron sights: a hooded front sight post and a tangent rear sight leaf graduated to 1000 meters. This setup provides the classic sight picture associated with the platform.
Markings include the Norinco five-point star, "MADE IN CHINA," and roll-marked "MAK-90 SPORTER CAL 7.62X39MM." The importer stamp reads C.J.A SFLD MI (C.J.A Southfield, MI). Matching abbreviated serials were observed on components, aligning with typical Chinese manufacture of the period. The rifle accepts detachable AK-pattern box magazines and comes with one 30-round PMAG.
