The SCAR 17S uses a semi-automatic, short-stroke gas piston system with an adjustable gas regulator that includes a suppressed setting. This configuration supports reliable function across a range of 7.62x51 NATO loads.
Its 16.25-inch cold hammer forged, chrome-lined barrel features a 1:12 twist and a threaded muzzle with the factory three-prong flash hider. The bore presents a clean, mirror finish with sharp rifling.
The rifle uses a lightweight black anodized aluminum receiver and a full-length, T-marked MIL-STD-1913 monolithic top rail. A vented handguard with elongated oval slots aids heat management, and factory flip-up iron sights are included and installed.
Ergonomics are enhanced by a folding, telescoping polymer stock with adjustable cheek rest and rubber buttpad. The length of pull is adjustable from 12.0 to 14.5 inches, contributing to a total length of 36.0 to 38.5 inches. Controls include an ambidextrous safety selector and a left-side charging handle.
