The Prodigy AOS configuration features Springfield Armory's AOS modular optics interface with the cover plate installed, paired with a green fiber-optic front sight; rear sight configuration may vary with the AOS plate/optic setup. Forward and rear cocking serrations on the slide aid manipulation, and the black Cerakote finish is applied to both the slide and the forged carbon steel frame.
Its 5-inch, match-grade, bushingless bull barrel is stainless steel with a 1:16 twist and is supported by a two-piece full-length guide rod. The single-action system uses a skeletonized hammer and a long, three-hole, skeletonized trigger for a familiar 1911 fire control feel.
Ergonomics and control are enhanced by an ambidextrous thumb safety, beavertail grip safety with memory bump, and a wraparound polymer grip module with Adaptive Grip Texture. A flared magazine well speeds reloads, and the integral five-slot 1913 Picatinny accessory rail provides mounting space for a light or other rail accessory.
This double-stack 9mm ships with 20- and 17-round factory steel magazines for a 20+1 capacity. It is a recent release introduced in 2022, with an approximate unloaded weight of 33 oz for the 5-inch model, and Springfield Armory has documented a 10,000-round endurance test of the 5-inch variant.
