The Ballester-Molina operates on a single-action, short-recoil, locked-breech system. Controls include a left-side manual thumb safety and a half-cock hammer notch. It uses a pivoting trigger and, by design, does not have a grip safety.
Its government-length 5-inch barrel uses the traditional bushing and plug setup. The pistol is equipped with fixed iron sights: a blade front and a rear notch set in a dovetail. The slide features grouped rear vertical serrations and a standard non-lowered ejection port.
Construction is all steel with a blued finish over a carbon steel frame and slide. It has a spur hammer and a serrated mainspring housing with lanyard loop. The full-size, single-column magazine configuration provides a 7+1 capacity. Smooth hardwood grip panels are currently installed.
Markings add to its appeal: the slide carries a Spanish-language rollmark with metric caliber "11.25 m/m," and the pistol is import marked "INTERARMS ALEX, VA." The serial number is located on the right-rear of the frame.
