Manufactured at the Cugir arsenal and marked with the Romanian People’s Republic crest and the triangle-with-arrow, this M44 is clearly identified as Romanian production. It also carries an import mark reading "C.A.I. GEORGIA VT M44 ROMANIAN 7.62X54R," along with an inspector/rework digit "3" on the barrel shank.
This M44 pattern carbine retains the model’s hallmark features, including the integral right-folding cruciform spike bayonet with locking collar, a round receiver with a straight bolt handle and spherical knob, and a blued finish. The fixed 5-round internal magazine uses a hinged floorplate and is charger-loaded, consistent with the Mosin-Nagant platform.
The hardwood one-piece stock includes a finger groove, upper handguard, two barrel bands, side sling slots with metal liners, a cross-bolt reinforcement, and a steel buttplate. The length of pull measures 13.0 in, offering a compact handling profile alongside the carbine-length configuration.
Barrel length is approximately 20.25 in with an overall length of about 40 in. Sights are a hooded post front and a tangent rear sight with meter graduations. A separate bayonet mounting collar just behind the front sight contains the spring-loaded latch/locking mechanism, while the hooded front sight base provides the forward lug the bayonet locks over when extended, reflecting the M44’s integrated design.
In line with many M44 carbines, this rifle’s point of impact was often regulated with the bayonet extended. Matching serialized components are observed on the bolt, floorplate, and receiver, further supporting its cohesive configuration in 7.62x54R.
