As a Third Model pre-Model 17, this K-22 Masterpiece presents the desirable four-screw frame and a K-prefix serial on the butt, placing it firmly in the mid-1950s production period. It offers the classic K-frame target revolver form that later became the Model 17.
The 6-inch pinned carbon steel barrel has a serrated top rib and a ramped, pinned front blade, paired with an S&W micrometer-adjustable square-notch rear sight. Chambers are non-recessed, and the revolver retains the non-shrouded, knurled ejector rod with a partial under-barrel lug.
Construction is carbon steel with a blued finish across the frame, cylinder, and barrel. The exposed hammer and smooth-face trigger are color case-hardened, complementing the revolver’s period-correct fit and finish.
Grip configuration is the square-butt frame fitted with factory checkered walnut diamond Magna grips featuring S&W medallions. This setup delivers the traditional K-frame feel favored by target shooters of the era.
Markings include SMITH & WESSON on the left side of the barrel, .22 LONG RIFLE CTG. on the right side of the barrel, MADE IN U.S.A. / MARCAS REGISTRADAS / SMITH & WESSON / SPRINGFIELD, MASS. on the right side of the frame, and the S&W monogram logo on the sideplate. The yoke shows an assembly number with no model number in the yoke cut, consistent with pre-Model 17 production.
