The Sport III configuration features a mid-length gas system and a 15-inch free-float M-LOK aluminum handguard with a continuous 12-o'clock Picatinny rail. Forged receivers include a standard hinged trigger guard, forward assist, ejection-port cover, and a case deflector for right-hand ejection. Receiver markings include MODEL M&P-15 and SMITH & WESSON SPRINGFIELD, MA MADE IN U.S.A., with a large S&W logo on the magwell.
The 16-inch 4140 steel barrel is Armornite treated and uses 5R rifling with a 1:8 twist. It is threaded 1/2x28 and fitted with an aftermarket multi-prong muzzle device. This setup supports common 5.56 NATO loads while maintaining a handy overall length and threading for standard 5.56 muzzle accessories.
A Crimson Trace red dot optic is installed, providing a red reticle for fast sighting. The rifle ships without iron sights per factory specification, and the top rail is ready to mount the included optic and other accessories as desired.
Furniture includes a 6-position collapsible stock with a 13.25-inch length of pull and an A2-style polymer pistol grip. An M-LOK vertical foregrip is already mounted to the handguard. The platform uses a semi-automatic, direct-impingement action with a manual safety selector, 30+1 capacity, and right-hand ejection.
