Constructed entirely of stainless steel, the 617-6 uses the robust K-Frame with a satin stainless finish on the frame, cylinder, and 4-inch barrel. The barrel features a full underlug and serrated rib, while the topstrap is also serrated to cut glare. A shrouded full-length ejector rod with a knurled tip and a 10-shot fluted cylinder round out the configuration.
The revolver operates in double-action/single-action and incorporates Smith & Wesson's internal key lock. It is outfitted with a Hogue rubber Monogrip with molded-in S&W logos for a secure hold. Sighting is handled by adjustable iron sights, with a pinned black front blade and an adjustable rear.
