The M70AB2 Sporter is a semi-automatic 7.62x39 rifle built on a stamped steel receiver paired with a bulged RPK-style front trunnion. This configuration, along with the model’s lack of magazine-well dimples, reflects the Yugoslav M70 pattern.
Yugo-specific features include the gas cut-off with a flip-up rifle-grenade sight and an installed 22 mm grenade spigot. It also uses the open-ear front sight base and a tangent rear sight. The selector lever incorporates a bolt-hold-open notch, and a manual safety selector is present.
The steel underfolding stock uses a right-side pushbutton hinge for deployment and storage. Length of pull is 13.0 inches. Furniture consists of a vented sheet-metal M70-pattern upper handguard/gas tube cover and a black polymer lower handguard (with two elongated cooling slots per side), plus a black ribbed Yugo-pattern pistol grip. There is no front sling loop at the gas-block area.
