The LeMat system defines this revolver: a 9-shot .44 cap-and-ball cylinder encircles a central smoothbore barrel intended for grapeshot (approximately 20 gauge). A selector on the hammer nose allows the shooter to choose between the cylinder and the central barrel.
The Cavalry configuration adds a spurred trigger guard and a lanyard ring for secure carry. Sighting is straightforward, with a fixed front blade and a rear notch on the hammer nose. The revolver operates via a single-action percussion system consistent with period design.
Construction is robust and traditional, with a steel frame, barrel, and cylinder. The barrel and cylinder wear a high-polish blued finish, complemented by a color case-hardened hammer. Checkered walnut grips provide a classic look and a secure hold.
This reproduction was manufactured in Italy and imported by Navy Arms Co., Ridgefield, N.J. The import marking reads "NAVY ARMS CO. RIDGEFIELD N.J." Barrel length is 6.75 inches, and the cylinder capacity is nine rounds.
