The FPC’s right-side folding design shortens overall length to 16 3/8 in for transport and storage, then locks open to 30 3/8 in for shooting. The charging handle doubles as the transport latch, and the carbine ejects to the right.
Its 16.5 in 4140 steel barrel is threaded 1/2x28 and includes a thread protector. A straight blowback system drives a stainless-steel bolt within a hard-coat anodized aluminum receiver tube. Weight is approximately 5.03 lb.
Ergonomics are set up for practical use: Flat Dark Earth polymer frame and fixed stock with dual spare-mag carriers and a QD sling socket, plus an M&P-pattern textured grip with interchangeable backstraps. Controls include a reversible magazine release and a flat-face trigger.
A top Picatinny rail on the handguard (not continuous across the hinge/receiver) and a polymer M-LOK handguard with slots at 3, 6, and 9 o’clock provide accessory mounting flexibility. No iron sights are installed. The carbine uses M&P double-stack pistol magazines and is marked M&P FPC and SMITH & WESSON MARYVILLE, TN USA. Made in the USA.
