The 6-inch heavy, slab-sided barrel with milled relief grooves is the hallmark of the Match Target variant and delivers a steady sight picture for target work. The pistol is equipped with a ramped front sight featuring a screw-adjustable blade and a fully adjustable rear sight, giving the shooter precise control over elevation and windage.
This Third Series configuration employs a magazine catch, diagonal rear slide serrations, and a crisp single-action trigger within a simple blowback operating system. Capacity is 10+1 with the included single-stack magazine.
Construction is carbon steel with a factory blued finish. Markings include the left barrel legend with MATCH TARGET and Rampant Colt rollmarks, and the right frame marked "COLT AUTOMATIC CAL. .22 LONG RIFLE." Proof and inspection stamps are present, including "62" near the Rampant Colt, and an S-suffix serial format is observed.
The one-piece orthopedic walnut target grips are checkered and feature an integral palm shelf for support. These target-style stocks lack Colt medallions, as noted. An import/distributor marking "SAMPSON LTD G'BURG IL" is roll-stamped on the magazine body beneath "COLT CAL. .22." Made in the United States during the 1960s era, this example represents the Third Series features collectors look for.
