This first-generation M&P15 Sport stands out with its original slick-side upper that omits the forward assist and ejection-port cover, paired with a flat-top Picatinny receiver marked with S&W T-marks. It features a 16" 5.56 NATO barrel with a 1:9 twist, a threaded muzzle with an A2 birdcage flash suppressor, and an installed aftermarket aluminum quad-rail handguard. It comes ready with iron sights and three Magpul PMAGs, including a windowed MagLevel PMAG with magazine pulls.

The Gen 1 M&P15 Sport configuration is identifiable by its slick-side upper with no forward assist and no ejection-port cover. The receiver is a flat-top Picatinny design with S&W T-marks, providing clear, repeatable rail references.
The 16" barrel is roll-marked "5.56 NATO 1/9" and uses the later 1:9 twist configuration for the original Sport. It is threaded at the muzzle and fitted with an A2 birdcage flash suppressor. The rifle operates via a semi-automatic, direct-impingement system.
An aftermarket aluminum quad-rail handguard is installed, offering four rails with numbered positions at 12, 3, 6, and 9 o'clock. Sighting is via a fixed A2 front sight base with a sling loop and a flip-up rear aperture sight on the receiver rail.
The rifle uses a 6-position collapsible polymer stock and a Magpul polymer pistol grip, all in a matte black finish. It accepts detachable STANAG-pattern magazines and ships with three 30-round PMAGs. Capacity is 30+1. A manual safety is present. Made in the United States.
