Condition
Overall Condition: Good condition, showing some signs of prior use and handling.
Bore Condition: Excellent - Clean, mirror finish, no signs of wear.
Specific Condition Notes: The walnut stock and splinter forend show some scuffs and dings. The metal shows mild wear and scuffs. Barrel fit is tight and the locking mechanism has good life. The firing pins appear great and the ejectors are properly timed. The trigger is slow to reset and may benefit from cleaning old grease out of the action.
What’s Included
- Original case
The factory engraving presents detailed game-bird scenes with surrounding scroll, paired with sculpted fences and floral-rosette screw heads. The coin-finished receiver contrasts cleanly with the blued barrels, highlighting the engraving and traditional German styling.
The 28-inch barrels wear a solid matted rib and a brass front bead, with front bead only sights as configured. A drop-in gauge measures both barrels at approximately Improved Cylinder; we recommend using a barrel micrometer to confirm exact constrictions.
The break-action build has a single trigger and automatic ejectors, consistent with the E suffix. Mechanical details include disc-set (bushed) firing pins, double underlugs with bites, and a Deeley (Deeley & Edge) lever-style forend latch. The barrel fit is tight with good life in the locking mechanism.
Stocks are checkered walnut with a straight English grip and a matching splinter forend, measuring a 14.25-inch length of pull. Markings include Suhl proof marks, date code 12/76, bore stamp 18,6, and GEBR. MERKEL SUHL MADE IN GERMANY, along with Merkel USA Inc, Trussville, AL importer markings. Model marking reads 147E 12Ga, and matching assembly numbers were observed on the forend and barrel assembly.
