The 870 Express platform uses a steel receiver with twin action bars for consistent, reliable cycling. It ejects to the right and loads from the bottom, and a cross-bolt safety is positioned at the trigger guard. The trigger plate housing is metal, and the magazine holds four rounds with the standard knurled cap.
The 25.5 in ventilated-rib barrel provides a sighting plane along the rib. It is chambered for 2 3/4 in and 3 in shells per the barrel marking. An interchangeable choke system is fitted, and this gun currently has an Improved Cylinder tube installed.
Furniture consists of a hardwood buttstock and a diamond-checkered hardwood fore-end that offers a positive grip. The length of pull measures 14.0 in, and a black recoil pad is installed. The exterior finish is matte blued, consistent across the barrel and steel receiver.
Markings include a barrel date code "PJ" and inspector/proof marks near the receiver. This example is part of the Express series, noted for its matte exterior and practical field configuration.
