This Colt Blackpowder Arms Co. Special Model 1861 Rifle-Musket is a Signature Series (3rd Generation) reproduction with factory-engraved Sam Colt signature and correct military-style markings. Assembled in the United States using Italian-made parts, it features a 40" bright-finished steel barrel, bright iron/steel furniture, and a one-piece hardwood stock. The lockplate carries the U.S./Colt's Hartford legend with an 1861 date, and it comes fitted with an installed leather sling.

This Signature Series (3rd Generation) reproduction of the Special Model 1861 rifle-musket was produced by Colt Blackpowder Arms Co. in the 1990s. It was assembled in the United States using Italian-made parts and is configured with bright-finished steel components and a one-piece hardwood stock with a straight wrist.
Period-style markings are present throughout: the lockplate is marked "U.S./COLT'S PT F.A. MFG. CO./HARTFORD, CT" with an "1861" date, and the buttplate tang is stamped "U.S." The left breech shows "V / P" with an eagle-head proof alongside "STEEL." The trigger-guard bow carries a factory-engraved Sam Colt script signature.
The 40" steel barrel has a bright finish, paired with bright iron/steel furniture and a tulip-head steel ramrod. Three screw-retained clamping barrel bands secure the barrel to the stock, with sling swivels at the middle band and on the trigger-guard bow (no swivel on the front band).
Sighting is via iron sights: a fixed front blade that also serves as a socket-bayonet lug and a flip-up military rear sight. The rifle-musket uses a percussion muzzle-loading action in .58 BPM with a single-shot capacity. Length of pull measures 13.5 in.
