The Model 639 represents Smith & Wesson’s Second Generation 9mm line, pairing a stainless steel frame and slide for durability and corrosion resistance. This example retains the period-correct early rounded trigger guard configuration and rear vertical slide serrations.
Its DA/SA, hammer-fired system uses a Browning-type short-recoil, locked-breech operating system. Controls include a left-side-only slide-mounted manual safety/decocker and a standard, checkered magazine release. The exposed hammer has a longitudinally serrated spur for positive manipulation.
Sights consist of a ramped front with a colored insert and an adjustable square-notch rear, offering a clear sight picture. The smooth, curved DA/SA trigger complements the platform’s controllability.
This full-size 9mm runs an 8+1 single-stack magazine configuration and comes with three magazines. The installed Pachmayr Signature wrap-around rubber grips provide a secure, hand-filling hold consistent with 1980s-era upgrades. Made in the United States.
