The CAR816 A2 uses a short-stroke gas piston with a 3-position adjustable gas block (normal/adverse/suppressed), allowing the user to tune the system for conditions or suppressor use. The piston is field-serviceable and removes from the front for straightforward maintenance.
Its 16-inch barrel is made from 4150 CMV steel, nitrided for surface hardness and corrosion resistance, and features a 1:7 twist to stabilize a wide range of 5.56mm NATO projectiles. The barrel is threaded and fitted with an A2 flash hider, and it uses a stepped/medium profile.
The proprietary free-float aluminum handguard provides extensive M-LOK attachment real estate and a full-length Picatinny top rail. A keyed anti-rotation interface keeps the handguard secure, while integrated QD sling sockets and T-marked 1913 rail sections support consistent accessory placement.
Receivers are 7075-T6 aluminum with a Type III hard-coat anodized black finish. The QPQ-coated anti-tilt bolt carrier and Carpenter 158 bolt are paired with an Enhanced Duty Trigger set at approximately 5.5 lb. Controls include ambidextrous safety selectors, and the rifle accepts standard AR-15 pattern magazines.
The adjustable, 6-position stock and textured polymer pistol grip provide a familiar AR-15 interface. This rifle is made in the United States (Boise, Idaho) and has a 30+1 capacity.
