Built in New Haven, Connecticut in 1981, this Model 70 XTR Featherweight is chambered in .270 Win and features a 22 in featherweight-contour blued barrel marked "Winchester Proof Steel." The receiver is drilled and tapped from the factory, and this variant was cataloged without factory open sights.
The steel receiver houses a push-feed bolt-action with a jeweled bolt body, two locking lugs, and a swept bolt handle. A three-position wing safety tops the shroud. Feeding is via an internal box magazine with a hinged floorplate, and capacity is 5+1. The left receiver wall is marked "WINCHESTER TRADE MARK," and a small circled "R" appears on the receiver bridge.
The walnut stock follows the Featherweight profile and includes skip-line checkering with fleur-de-lis accents, a flared fore-end, sling swivel studs, and a Winchester-logo recoil pad. Length of pull measures 13.25 in. The metal wears a uniform blued finish consistent with the XTR era.
A Leupold VARI-X IIc 3x9 scope is installed using Leupold bases and rings, providing a clean, period-correct 3-9x magnification setup in a gloss, gold-ring configuration. A leather sling is fitted to the factory studs.
