The Model 659 is the stainless, Second Generation evolution of S&W’s double-stack 9mm lineage. This example pairs a 4 inch barrel with a stainless slide and frame. The slide has brushed flats with matte/bead-blast contours for reduced glare, and the pistol measures approximately 7.56 inches overall.
Its operating system is double-action/single-action with a short-recoil, locked-breech design. Controls include an ambidextrous, slide-mounted safety/decocker with a red "fire" indicator, a smooth-faced trigger, and a spur hammer. The squared/hooked trigger guard and vertical serrations on the frontstrap and backstrap support a stable grip.
Grip architecture is the classic three-piece arrangement: an exposed metal backstrap paired with two black checkered synthetic panels featuring S&W medallions. Sights consist of an adjustable rear unit and a ramped, serrated front sight. The barrel hood is marked "9MM PARABELLUM."
Markings include "MADE IN USA / MARCAS REGISTRADAS / SMITH & WESSON SPRINGFIELD, MASS." with model identification on both frame ("Model 659") and slide ("SMITH & WESSON"). As the stainless counterpart to the Model 59 and the forerunner to the 5906, the 659 saw wide U.S. law enforcement use in the 1980s. It uses a double-column magazine for a 14+1 capacity, and this pistol comes with two 14-round steel magazines.
