Built on the N-frame and chambered in .45 Colt, the Model 25-3 carries a 6.5 inch heavy ribbed barrel with a shrouded ejector rod and serrated top rib. The DA/SA action, six-shot cylinder, and target-tuned controls reflect S&W’s premium big-bore configuration of the era.
Factory embellishments define this commemorative: gold-inlaid barrel legends reading "SMITH & WESSON 125TH ANNIVERSARY" and ".45 CALIBER," plus a gold-inlaid sideplate crest marked "125 YEARS" with the dates 1852–1977. The revolver is marked "MOD. 25-3" in the yoke cut and uses a special S&W commemorative serial-number format specific to this series.
The finish is polished blue over a carbon steel frame with smooth target-style wood stocks featuring S&W medallions on a square-butt frame. A wide, target-style trigger and target hammer are color casehardened, complementing the commemorative presentation.
Sights include a ramped front sight with a red insert and an adjustable rear sight, providing a clean, target-focused sight picture. ATF recognizes this commemorative as a Curio & Relic, adding formal collector status to its one-year production and approximately 10,000-unit run.
