The SD40 VE uses a striker-fired action with Smith & Wesson's Self Defense Trigger (SDT) and a hinged trigger safety. A visual chamber inspection port (witness hole in the barrel hood) provides a quick visual check of chamber status. The stainless steel slide and 4-inch stainless barrel offer corrosion-resistant durability with a clean, two-tone look.
Sight alignment is straightforward with fixed 3-dot sights: a white-dot dovetailed front and a two-dot dovetailed, drift-adjustable rear. The slide includes front and rear cocking serrations for positive manipulation, and an external extractor supports reliable case control.
The black polymer frame features molded texturing and an 18-degree grip angle for a consistent index. A molded finger index pad is positioned above the trigger guard. Overall length is 7.2 inches, width is 1.29 inches, and weight is 22.7 oz, keeping the pistol easy to carry and handle.
This model feeds from 14-round magazines for a 14+1 capacity. A three-slot Picatinny-style accessory rail is integrated into the dust cover for mounting compatible accessories. Two factory 14-round steel magazines are included.
