The Remington Model 550-1 is a U.S.-made, blowback-operated .22 that automatically adapts to .22 Short, Long, and Long Rifle. It uses a self-compensating, floating-chamber system developed under Kenneth Lowe and David Marshall "Carbine" Williams, paired with a 24-inch barrel, under-barrel tubular magazine, and classic open sights. Part of a long-running Model 550 family produced from 1941 to 1971 (approx. 764,573 made), many examples were shipped without serial numbers from the factory.

This Model 550-1 features Remington’s self-compensating operation that allows reliable cycling with .22 Short, .22 Long, and .22 Long Rifle ammunition. The floating chamber adjusts recoil impulse, letting the rifle handle mixed loads without manual changes.
The rifle is built around a 24-inch steel barrel and a blued steel receiver, complemented by a wood stock with a straight comb and a checkered steel buttplate. Length of pull measures 13.75 inches for a traditional sporting fit.
Feeding is via an under-barrel tubular magazine, with a listed capacity of 12+1. Sight alignment is straightforward, using a front blade in a dovetail/ramp base and a rear leaf with a stepped elevator for quick elevation changes.
