Made in China by Jianshe Arsenal, this Type 56 SKS is a Factory 26 rifle, confirmed by the triangle /26\ marking. The letter-series Y-prefix denotes late-1950s to early-1960s production, aligning with its early-pattern features and period-correct configuration.
The rifle uses the SKS-pattern long-stroke gas system with a tilting-bolt lockup and semi-automatic operation. It has an approximately 20.5-inch barrel and an unthreaded muzzle. Feeding is via a fixed 10-round internal magazine with a hinged floorplate, and the charging handle is the round, knurled type.
Classic early features include the folding blade bayonet with fullers, left-side sling configuration, and an in-the-white bolt and carrier. The receiver is milled steel with a stamped receiver cover, and the metal parts wear a blued finish. Sighting equipment consists of a hooded post front and a tangent rear sight graduated to 1000 meters.
The hardwood stock is lacquered and includes a fore-end grasping groove, a left-side buttstock sling swivel, and a steel buttplate with trapdoor. The wood upper handguard features elongated cooling slots. Importer marking reads "SKS 7.62 CHINA CJA SOUTHFIELD, MI," and matching serial numbers were observed on the receiver, receiver cover, fixed magazine floorplate, trigger guard, and bolt carrier/bolt.
