The 8040 Cougar Type F pairs a compact footprint with a DA/SA, short-recoil rotating-barrel system. It features a 3.6 in chrome-lined steel barrel, a Bruniton-finished slide, and a black anodized light-alloy frame. The exposed spur hammer and DA/SA trigger system provide familiar Beretta control dynamics.
Manufactured in Gardone V.T., Italy, this pistol is marked PIETRO BERETTA GARDONE V.T. – MADE IN ITALY and bears Italian proof marks, including the boxed BH code that corresponds to 1996. The pistol also has the BERETTA USA CORP. ACKK. MD.
import mark. The right side of the slide carries the circled PB monogram near the serrations, while the frame’s right side is marked with serial number 036576MC and CAT. 7917.
Controls include an ambidextrous slide-mounted safety/decocker in the Type F configuration and a left-side magazine release. Sights are fixed, with a front blade and a dovetailed rear notch. The black checkered polymer grips with Beretta medallions round out the factory configuration.
Dimensions are approximately 7.0 in in length, 5.5 in in height, and 1.5 in in width, with a sight radius of about 5.2 in and an unloaded weight around 32.4 oz. Capacity is 10+1 with the included 10-round magazines, which have witness holes marked 4, 7, and 10 and 40 at the base.
