Product Description

Smith & Wesson Model 60 Chiefs Special Stainless (No Dash) .38 Special, 1.875 in Pinned Barrel, 5-Shot J-Frame, 1977–1978

This early no-dash S&W Model 60 Chiefs Special Stainless represents the first regular-production stainless-steel revolver line. Manufactured in 1977–1978, it features a factory 1.875 in pinned barrel, five-shot J-frame round-butt profile, and fixed sights. It carries the "MOD. 60" yoke marking and early "Marcas Registradas" rollmarks, with stainless construction throughout and checkered walnut service stocks with S&W medallions.

    Condition

Overall Condition: Good condition, showing some signs of prior use and handling.

Bore Overall Condition: Good - Clean, well-maintained, minor wear marks.

Bore Rifling: Good Rifling - Intact, well-defined lands and grooves.

Specific Condition Notes: The firearm presents well with visible scratches and blemishes. Small, infrequent pitting deposits are present. The bore is clean and shiny. The action remains tight. Minor carbon is visible on the cylinder face and around the forcing cone, consistent with normal firing.

    What’s Included

    • Brown suede leather inside-the-waistband holster with metal belt clip

This no-dash Model 60 is part of the Chiefs Special Stainless series and is marked "MOD. 60" on the yoke. The production era (1977–1978) aligns with early stainless development at S&W, accompanied by the period-correct "Marcas Registradas" rollmarks.

It is built on the micro-size J-frame with a round-butt grip frame and chambers five rounds of .38 Special. The action is double-action/single-action with an exposed, checkered spur hammer, and the ejector rod is the unshrouded, short, knurled style associated with this period.

The factory 1.875 in pinned stainless barrel pairs with fixed sights: a serrated ramp front and a rear notch milled into the topstrap. The stainless frame, cylinder, and barrel provide a uniform finish suited to the Chiefs Special Stainless lineage.

Original-style checkered walnut service stocks with S&W medallions complement the compact J-frame profile, maintaining the period-correct look and feel of this early stainless revolver.
