Product Description

Savage Arms Model 99C .284 Win Lever-Action, 22 in Barrel, Detachable Magazine, 1965, Weaver 1.5-4.5x Scope

This 1965 Savage Arms Model 99C is the first-year detachable-magazine "clip" variant of the classic Model 99, chambered in the less common .284 Winchester. It features the hammerless internal-striker action, a solid-top receiver without the traditional cartridge-counter window, and comes outfitted with a Weaver 1.5-4.5x variable scope on a pivoting-style base. The rifle retains hallmark 99 details such as a curved lever and gold-tone trigger, with Westfield, Massachusetts barrel markings and proof-test stamps.

    Condition

Overall Condition: Good condition, showing some signs of prior use and handling.

Bore Condition: Good - Clean, well-maintained, minor wear marks.

Rifling: Good Rifling - Intact, well-defined lands and grooves.

Specific Condition Notes: There are a few cracks behind the rear tang of the action. Rear sight shows typical wear.

    What’s Included

    • Weaver 1.5-4.5x variable scope with duplex-style reticle
    • Weaver USA scope rings
    • Pivoting-style scope base
    • 1x 4-round magazine

The Model 99C configuration introduces a detachable box magazine while retaining the 99’s smooth lever-driven, internal-striker (hammerless) action and tang-mounted sliding safety. Capacity is 4+1, and this rifle uses a solid-top receiver with no cartridge-counter window, aligning with the C-variant’s design changes.

Chambered in .284 Winchester, this example pairs the cartridge with a 22 in barrel. The .284 Win chambering is less common within the Model 99 line, adding interest for buyers who value unique configurations from this era.

Stock furniture is walnut with checkering at the pistol grip and on the walnut forearm’s diamond-pattern panels. It is finished with a black grip cap and a steel serrated buttplate. The rifle also presents a curved lever and a gold-tone trigger.

Factory sights include a ramped bead front and an adjustable rear leaf. A Weaver 1.5-4.5x scope with a duplex reticle is installed using Weaver USA rings on a pivoting-style base.

Barrel markings read "HI-PRESSURE STEEL - PROOF TESTED" and "SAVAGE ARMS - WESTFIELD, MASS. U.S.A." This rifle falls within the first-year (1965) 99C configuration, produced during the Westfield, Massachusetts period.
