Product Description

Waffenfabrik Oberndorf Gewehr 98 Sporterized 8mm Mauser, Weimar '1920' Marked, 22 Inch Barrel, Bolt-Action Rifle

This Oberndorf-made WWI-era Gewehr 98 bears the Weimar '1920' property mark and has been converted into a half-stock sporter while retaining the distinctive Gewehr 98 Lange-Visier rear sight. The barrel has been shortened to 22 inches and turned to a slim sporting profile with visible spiral lathe marks. It uses the large-ring 98 action with a stripper-clip guide and an internal 5-round box magazine. Numbers are not matched.

    Condition

Overall Condition: Fair condition, showing extensive signs of prior use and handling.

Bore Condition: Fair - Generally clean, some residue or smudges, slight corrosion.

Specific Condition Notes: The rifle has been heavily sporterized. There is widespread finish wear and loss with widespread rust and pitting. The hardwood stock shows many scratches and blemishes. The rifling is defined, though blemished.

    What’s Included

    • Waffenfabrik Oberndorf Gewehr 98 sporterized bolt-action rifle chambered in 8mm Mauser

Built on a large-ring 98 receiver from Germany’s WWI era, this rifle carries Weimar '1920' property/inventory markings on the receiver ring, along with three small proof/inspection marks and a '7,90' bore marking. It features the classic straight bolt handle with round knob, the Mauser flag safety, and a receiver bridge with stripper-clip guide feeding an internal 5-round box magazine.

The sporter conversion includes a 22-inch barrel that was shortened and turned to a slim profile, leaving spiral lathe-turning marks visible along its length. The fore-end was cut back ahead of the rear sight, the front band/nose hardware and cleaning rod were removed, and the rifle was converted to a half-stock sporter configuration. A partial upper handguard remains around the rear sight base.

Original-style iron sights are retained, with the Gewehr 98 Lange-Visier (roller-coaster) rear sight and an unhooded front sight on a banded base. The stock is hardwood with a left-side grasping groove, a small round through-bushed hole centered in the buttstock (no Mauser takedown disc), bottom sling swivels, and a steel buttplate. Length of pull measures 13.0 inches.

This example has non-matching serial numbers between the receiver/components and stock. It is chambered in 8mm Mauser and configured on the Mauser platform with a 5-round capacity, combining military lineage with a period sporterized layout.
