The full-size M&P 40 pairs a 4.25 inch barrel with a 15+1 capacity in .40 S&W, delivering the original M&P balance and sight radius. This example is the first-generation configuration without a manual thumb safety, using a striker-fired, short-recoil, locked-breech action.
The barrel is stainless steel with a Melonite/Armornite treatment, and the pistol wears a black finish. The polymer frame keeps weight manageable while maintaining durability for regular range or duty use.
Controls and handling are enhanced by front and rear fish-scale slide serrations for confident manipulation. The grip accepts interchangeable backstraps, and the backstrap retention tool is stored in the grip for easy swaps.
Factory three-dot sights consist of a white-dot front and a low-profile two-dot rear for quick alignment. A MIL-STD-1913 accessory rail with four slots supports compatible lights or other rail-mounted equipment.
Safety features include a hinged two-piece trigger with an integral safety lever, a striker block, and a sear-deactivation lever; a loaded-chamber viewport (barrel hood witness hole) is present on this specimen.
