The P17 uses a straight-blowback, hammer-fired, single-action system with a light 3.0 lb trigger, giving it a crisp feel for rimfire shooting. It features ambidextrous controls, including a paddle-style magazine release and a manual thumb safety, for easy operation by right- or left-handed users.
The 3.8-inch hardened-steel barrel is threaded 1/2x28 and finished with a recessed crown. The reciprocating assembly uses a hardened-steel internal slide/bolt and top plate with a polymer slide shell/cover secured by screws; the barrel and trunnion are hardened steel, paired with a tan polymer clamshell frame for a rugged, serviceable design.
Sighting is fast and adjustable: a green fiber-optic front sight teams with a fully adjustable rear. A three-slot Picatinny-style accessory rail on the dust cover offers simple mounting for compatible lights or other rail-mounted accessories.
