The SD9 VE uses a striker-fired system with Smith & Wesson’s hinged two-piece Self Defense Trigger (SDT). A trigger safety is integrated into the design, and a loaded-chamber witness port at the barrel hood provides a visual indicator of chamber status. Frame markings indicate no magazine disconnect, allowing the pistol to fire with the magazine removed.
Built around a 4.0 in stainless steel barrel and a matte stainless slide, the pistol combines corrosion-resistant materials with practical features. Front and rear slide serrations offer positive manipulation, while left-side controls include the slide stop, takedown lever, and magazine release.
Sights are a clean, high-visibility 3-dot setup: a white-dot front sight paired with a dovetailed two-dot rear. The dustcover incorporates a Picatinny-style accessory rail for mounting compatible lights or other rail-mounted accessories as desired.
