The SOCOM 16 CQB configuration centers on a 16.25 in carbon-steel barrel (6-groove, 1:11 RH) capped with the proprietary SOCOM multi-port muzzle brake. This compact setup maintains M1A performance in a handier package while retaining the classic M14-based operating system.
It uses a semi-automatic, short-stroke gas piston with a rotating bolt, housed in a steel receiver with a parkerized finish. Chambering is .308 Win/7.62×51 NATO with a 20+1 capacity, providing broad ammunition compatibility in a durable, service-style build.
The Archangel CQB polymer stock adds practical ergonomics: a telescoping length of pull, adjustable cheek riser, and a pistol grip on an AR-type receiver extension. The stock includes molded "ARCHANGEL" branding and a small U.S. flag, aligning the rifle’s modern furniture with its American manufacture.
Sighting is handled by a protected front post and a fully adjustable rear aperture. A barrel-mounted forward "scout" Picatinny rail comes installed, with detachable rail segments at 3 and 6 o’clock and provision at 9, simplifying accessory placement. Overall length runs approximately 35.5–38.5 in with a weight of about 9.3 lb. The CQB variant was introduced in 2016.
