Product Description

Winchester Model 1892 Standard Rifle .32-20 Win, 24 inch Octagon Barrel, 10-Round, 1900 Production

This Winchester Model 1892 Standard Rifle is a 1900 production example chambered in .32-20 Win with a 24 inch octagon barrel and a full-length tubular magazine. It features the early upper-tang legend "MODEL 1892 - WINCHESTER - PAT. OCT. 14, 1884" with no oval "WP" proofmarks observed. The solid-frame, top-eject receiver with a right-side loading gate and classic rifle configuration make this a notable, period-correct piece.

The action remains tight, with a strong hammer fall.

The rifle retains its Standard Rifle configuration: a 24 inch octagon steel barrel with dovetail cuts for sights and a full-length under-barrel tubular magazine capped by a slotted magazine plug. It is a solid-frame, top-eject design with a right-side loading gate and no saddle ring.

Stock furniture is standard-grade, plain, uncheckered walnut with a straight grip and a crescent steel buttplate. The long walnut fore-end is finished with a steel cap. Length of pull measures 13.0 inches.

Factory-style iron sights include a front dovetailed blade and a rear adjustable semi-buckhorn with an elevator. These complement the octagon barrel and dovetail cuts typical of the period.

Constructed with steel barrel, frame, and receiver components, this Winchester was made in the United States in 1900. Early tang markings and the absence of oval "WP" proofs align with its turn-of-the-century manufacture. The action is notably tight and the hammer drops with authority, underscoring sound mechanical engagement.

    Condition

Overall Condition: Fair condition, showing extensive signs of prior use and handling.

Bore Condition: Fair - Generally clean, some residue or smudges, slight corrosion.

Bore Rifling: Poor Rifling - Rifling heavily worn or filled with fouling or debris.

Specific Condition Notes: Widespread rust and pitting are present. The wood furniture shows blemishes across its surfaces. The bore appears dark and blemished. Despite the aesthetic wear, the action feels tight and the hammer drops with strong force.
