This example also has a ventilated rubber recoil pad with a black spacer installed, giving a measured 15.0 inch length of pull and a comfortable shoulder fit.

The 28 inch forged steel barrels are paired with a solid matted top rib and dual beads (front bead with a smaller mid-bead) for fast, consistent alignment. Chambers are cut for 2 3/4 inch shells, and capacity is two rounds.
The action is the classic break-action layout with double triggers and a manual tang safety. It uses a one-piece extractor (non-ejector) system for positive hull lift without automatic ejection.
The receiver and frame are steel with a case-hardened finish, and the receiver is marked "5100" along with J. Stevens Arms Company Chicopee Falls rollmarks. Internal assembly/inspection stamps and numerals appear on the forend/iron and barrel flats.
Furniture includes a checkered wood pistol-grip stock and matching splinter forend with a Deeley-style lever latch (Deeley & Edge). A ventilated rubber recoil pad with a black spacer is installed, producing a 15.0 inch length of pull. Made in the United States.
