Built on S&W’s stainless N-frame, this 629-1 combines a 6-inch standard barrel with the pre-Classic half-lug profile, ejector-rod shroud, and a serrated top rib. The stainless construction extends to the frame, cylinder, and barrel for durability and a consistent finish.
The 629-1 update removed the pinned barrel and recessed cylinder and introduced a slightly lengthened cylinder. This example has a fluted six-shot cylinder with non-recessed charge holes, aligning with the engineering change details noted for this variant.
Sighting is handled by a ramped front sight with an orange/red insert paired with a micrometer-style adjustable rear sight. The revolver operates in double-action/single-action and features a smooth-faced trigger and a target-style hammer for controlled shooting.
Aftermarket Rogers wood target stocks with finger grooves and checkering are installed, each with Rogers medallions. The left side of the frame carries the S&W monogram and Springfield, Mass. rollmarks. Made in the United States, this is a well-specified .44 Magnum in the standard, non–full-underlug configuration many enthusiasts prefer.
